The next Dr Sketchy is…

This Monday will be the first Dr Sketchy’s at our new North-of-the-river location, Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den.  It’s above The Brisbane Hotel on the corner of Beaufort and Brisbane Streets in Highgate and is a wonderful venue with lots of comfy seating and good lighting.

We’re very happy to announce that Source Cafe, on the opposite corner to The Brisbane, will be sponsoring us with free coffee vouchers available on the night.  Source cafe has some of the best coffee in town and a delicious selection of organic food delights.

Our model this week is The Ravishing Miss J., pin-up and bellydancer.  She’ll be doing a bellydance using Arabian swords and has lots of wonderful outfits planned for your sketching pleasure!

Dr Sketchy’s has a full page article in this week’s Guardian Express! It’s at the beginning of the ExpressLife section and includes a lovely photo of Trixi Tassles and Adora Derriere.

This is delivered free to homes around the Highgate/Mt Lawley area, or you can pick one up from outside the Astor cinema on Beaufort Street.

To reflect the fact that artists often prefer the longer poses to the shorter ones, we have decided to scrap the 1 minute poses and one of 5 minute poses to allow for another 10 minute one.

Also, so as you naughty latecomers don’t have to miss out on the performance, this will be moved up to about 8pm after the first block of posing.

Henceforth, the structure of the night will be as follows:

5x 2min poses
4x 5min poses
1x 10min pose

Our performer and model was the lovely Dizzy Lizzy Delicious.

It was our first time in Fremantle at the wonderful Norfolk Basement.  It’s a really lovely venue with couches, seats and bar stools as well as a proper stage area with good lighting.  The room was nice and warm too which was a welcome respite from the cold outside!

We will be down there again on July 21st so make sure you come along!  A flyer will be designed shortly, so hold tight to find out who our exciting model will be!

Dr Sketchy Perth is happy to announce that we are coming to Fremantle! On the third Monday of every month Dr Sketchy’s will be in the Norfolk Basement for your sketching pleasure. Evenings will run at the same time, from 7-10pm.

Our other big announcement is that we have moved our North-of-the-river nights to a bigger and better venue - Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den, upstairs at The Brisbane on the corner of Brisbane & Beaufort Streets, Highgate.

We will be here on the first Monday of every month from 7-10pm.

Trixi Tassels and A’dora Derriere xx

The website has been rearranged a little and we now have an album page where you can view images of previous Dr Sketchy nights.

Photos from April 21st have been added (finally!) and these will be uploaded regularly after each session from now on.

We are still to finalise our Fremantle venue but hopefully will have some good news this Friday in time to announce it next Monday.

A calendar of upcoming models and performers will be created as soon as we have confirmation on the new venue so you’ll be able to put dates in your diaries that you don’t want to miss!

Monday 31st March 2008 saw the inaugural Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School Perth!

Over 40 art monkeys packed into the upstairs room at the Leederville Hotel to draw Trixi Tassels and be entertained by live performances by Trixi and the wicked A’dora Derriere, of Sugar Blue Burlesque.

All this was set to a scrumptious soundtrack of vintage jazz and blues classics such as ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’, ‘Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree (With Anyone Else But Me)’ and ‘In The Mood’. There was much bopping and jiving in the seats and a very restrained Trixi Tassels who had to sit perfectly still through all of this!

Two lucky punters won free passes to Burlesquercise and Go-Go Robics classes with Sugar Blue Burlesque. The 20 minute poses were up for prizes for the best drawing and the best drawing incorporating a mythical or fantasy figure. Our two winners were definitely deserving of the Back To Burlesque show passes they won! It was definitely hard to judge though with some amazing artwork being produced all around the room.

There will be more prizes up for grabs next time to reward more of you awesome artists!

We’re also going to rearrange the room a little next time to ensure that more people get a closer view of the model. (A heater or two wouldn’t go amiss either!)
